6 word memoir: Pretty smile but has fake teeth
This is my
memoir because when I was in the 7th grade I went to my friends
house to go swimming in her pool. She had an beautiful under ground pool. She
also has an older brother who was swimming with us in the pool. He tried to
throw me in the pool missed and knocked out 7 of my front teeth. Ever since I have
been having multiple surgeries, root canals and have to live with the hard ships
of having fake teeth. Having fake teeth makes me not be able to eat certain
foods and it falls out a lot and I have to walk around embarrassed until I can
get it put back in. This relates to Sonia Sotomayor because I had to live with
hardships and change the way I live my life as a child just like she did.
I believe
that this book was chosen for the freshman class because it will show the
freshman class that no matter what happens you can always be successful. As
Sonia Sotomayor was growing up she was unfortunately diagnosed with diabetes.
Sonia said that back then if you had diabetes it was said that you were going
to die. They were not aware of diabetes and ways to treat it as they are now.
Sonia was young when she was diagnosed. Sonias mother worked very long hours
and was not home to take care of Sonia and her problem. Sonia’s father was an
alcoholic and was barely able to take care of himself. Sonia would have to take
care of herself and practiced stabbing her insulin shots into an orange so that
when she had to give them to herself she would know how to do it.
