I attended the women’s softball game against UCONN last Sunday
September 22. The campus at UCONN was beautiful and the softball field was an
amazing complex. While at the game the team went inside to use the bathroom and
we saw the football teams indoor facility. It was huge and one of the nicest
complex’s I’ve ever seen. It was our first game and it was against a very good
team so I was very nervous. We ended up loosing 11-6 but it was a good game. We
were winning 2-1 going into the 3rd inning. It was a great
experience and I am excited to have many more games.

life of kristen (5B)
The study taught me how long of days I have and that I
really need to have good time management in order to get my work done and have
good grades. I have 17 hours of homework a week. I am not able to devote 30-40
hours a week to outside schoolwork. Softball sucks up all of my time and I
didn’t think it was going to be such a part of my college experience to the
point where I cant do as many hours of school work as I’d wish. My day starts
at 6am and ends at 1030 at night on Mondays and Wednesdays, which makes it very
difficult to get my work done. I have to get all my work done on weekends or on
Tuesday or Thursday. One thing that I procrastinate on is these blogs. I use to
get the blogs done in the beginning of the week the first two weeks of school but
now I usually do them on Saturday. I sometimes forget about them and am
spending all Saturday in my room doing them while my friends are out enjoying
their Saturday. To eliminate the procrastination I could write a blog a day. It
would be less stressful and I would get them done better which would make a
positive impact on my grade for this class. I could even write the 300 word
blogs on two different days and both 100-word blogs on the same day so I will
still have time to socialize with my friends. For time management I will have
to do my homework whenever I have free time and get my work done in that time I
have. I can’t be using my phone or watching Netflix like I usually do in that
time. In result of the study I know that I need to get my work done in the time
slots that I can because I don’t have many time slots where I am able to get my
work done.
the difficulties of college (5A)
My first four weeks of college were the fastest four weeks;
it feels as if I have been at college for about a week. College is exactly how
I have imagined it to be. Coming into my first year as a college student I was
expecting to have large amounts of homework and just an overall better but
harder to pass education. The hardest thing about college is the softball and
the time that I have to get my work done. I am disappointed about my current
softball experience here. I thought that it was going to be fun and not as time
consuming but it is just like a part time job. From doing the weekly hours and
adding up the hours I put into it I find it ridiculous. My goal at southern
Connecticut is to graduate with my athletic training degree but that is my small
goal. My long-term goal is to become a physical therapist. I need to achieve my
short goal that is becoming an athletic trainer before I can even go to school
to become a physical therapist. I have chosen something that I desired and am
going in the direction. The smaller goals I have to achieve my goal of getting
my athletic training degree is to get good grades so I am able to achieve this
goal and get into a good physical therapy school. To do this I make sure that I
always make my five hours of study hall a week. I not only do it for softball
but I do it for myself. It helps me to get all my work and studying in for
those two days. I will have to have less hours of relaxing and social hours in
result of having to doing these five hour study halls. I will become more
motivated for my own self-improvement.
5V agency is related to action, power, movement and initiative
Agency:
is related to action, power, movement, and initiative.
Agency (own): being in action or acting
Agency relates to the
readings for this week because you need to act or take initiative to follow the
steps to achieve your goals that you have set for yourself. You also need to
have the power to set a good goal for yourself.
Code:
a set of rules that enables us to understand the meaning of signs and symbols.
Fantasy: the creative interpretation of an event by group members to fulfill
some need. Both these words are used in my media studies class and they both relate
to the class because we are learning about advertisements. A code is used in a
ad like Nike and a fantasy is used for the creators of the advertisement.

resist that temptation ! (4V)
Delayed Gratification: Delay gratification is the ability to resist the temptation for an
immediate reward and wait for a later reward.
Delayed
Gratification (own): to not do something you want knowing you will get a reward
for it after
Delayed Gratification
relates to the readings for this week because during the marshmallow test the
kids had to resist eating the marshmallow for 15 minutes in result to getting a
second marshmallow for the children to eat both.
One new word that I
learned this week in my MDS 101 class is the word pathos. It means a form of
proof that appeals to the audience’s emotions. This word relates to the class
because we use it to help persuade people to buy their products buy using
media.
Also in my MDS 101 class I learning about semiotics.
Semiotics is the theory of meaning of signs and symbols. This is used in Nike
ads. Instead of having the word Nike the swoosh symbol could just show up on
something and everyone will know that it is Nike.
