Everyone Has A Purpose Of Living (13V)

Purpose: The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
Purpose (own): The reason why you are acting on something

“If there is meaning in life at all then there must be meaning in suffering.” Everyone has a purpose of living. It just sometimes takes some people longer to figure out what their purpose of life is then others. In this weeks readings the reading “There Is More To Life Then Being Happy” talks about the purpose in why people do things. The author speaks about how he sees people dying in the concentration camps and why they are dying. He also speaks about a specific time when he was deciding whether or not he should move to America to get away from the camps. He read something about his mother and father that made him stay. His purpose is to stay and not move to America to escape the camps was because of his parents.

Enhancing College Level Thinking (13A)

My midterm video project grade was not the grade that I truly wanted. I made some slides and videos too long. I did not use college level thinking; my video was boring and simple. In order to improve my grade on my final video project I need to enhance my college level thinking and apply it to my video. I also need to take the things I did wrong on my midterm project and fix them in order to get a better grade on my final.

My final project for my INQ 101 class will be about procrastination. Every college student has procrastination. Students just need to be able to be mentally strong and be able to get their work done. In my video I will have a skit of a friend that is procrastinating a paper and having to be up all night the night before it is due to get it done. I will have a day-by-day video of her saying shell do her paper tomorrow and procrastinating the project until the night before. After I show the skit of the problem that my friend will be facing I will come up with solutions that will hopefully not only help my friend but other students who are facing a problem with procrastination.

To enhance my college level thinking I will come up with inquiry questions to ask students on campus about procrastination. I don’t want my video to just be about facts about procrastination. I want my classmates to be entertained when they are watching my project. Not only do I want them to be entertained but I also hope that the student watching my project will learn something and that my video helps them get over the problem that all students have while trying to get their work done.

Creativity Is Key (13B)

Being creative is something that I lack so making my video be as creative as I hope it will be is going to be a challenge. In my video I want it to be entertaining not just a video of words that seems like I just did what I had to do to get my project done with. Creativity is a must in videos to make it entertaining. No one wants to watch a boring video.

In my last video my videos were about myself and people probably weren’t able to relate to them. Now I am doing a video that is relatable to all college students. My video is on procrastination that all students have experienced. I want my video to be a day-by-day life of a procrastinator. I will videotape my friend procrastinating writing a paper. It will be a week span of her not doing her paper until the night before it is due. I will try to make my video funny and entertaining to watch. I hope that my classmates will enjoy watching my video and are able to relate to it. I will have music playing in the background that will make my video upbeat and fun. In my skit I will make it funny by having my friend do funny things that will make her procrastinate her doing her paper. For example, playing just dance and video games, watching movies on her laptop, eating and sleeping. After I show all the ways you can procrastinate I will show her ways that will help stop procrastination such as joining clubs, sports team, getting a job or just getting involved on campus. This will force her to only have a limited time to get her paper done. She will need to get her paper done before she has to go do whatever she signed up to do.

What is the value of a liberal arts education (12A)

What is the value of a liberal arts education?

Coming into Southern Connecticut State University I was not too sure what a liber arts class was. I have heard people speaking about it but I still did not know what it was. In result of reading the readings for this week I have learned that a liberal arts education is a basic education. Taking a liberal arts class broadens your schedule. Liberal is progressive vs. conservative, which is traditional. By taking liberal art classes you will be taking classes that don’t have to do with your major. In result of taking liberal art classes you expand your knowledge, person growth and have new experiences. You can enhance more skills that will help you in the future. A liberal arts education provides students with more knowledge than just their specific area of study or work field knowledge. While trying to seek a job employers hire the people who are going to bring more innovation into the workplace.  With a liberal arts education you will be able to do this.  Employers also seek it because the skills are helpful to adapting with changes in a workplace and make you capable of working and speaking with others. I personally found that a liber arts education was pointless before learning about the positives you gives you. As my first year in college I was expecting for myself to take only classes that were towards my major and nothing else. Now that we have been learning about the importance of a liberal arts education I am now going to try and incorporate a liberal arts class into my schedule whenever I have an opening to help for my future and expand my skills.

How would shorter school no hw and no tests change children ? (12B)

Coming into southern Connecticut I did not know what a liberal arts education was. I always heard people saying that word but never actually knew what it meant. From the past readings for this week I have learned that liberal arts is basic education. Liberal is progressive and conservative is traditional. In result of taking liberal arts classes you take classes that you wouldn’t normally choose and that don’t have anything to do with your major. The positives of taking liberal arts classes are that you gain personal growth and new experiences.
Questions:
1) Why does liberal arts education benefit you?
2) What qualities do employers seek in college grades?
3) Does our mind enrich society, not our careers?
4) How would shorter school, no homework and no tests change children?
- In result of having shorter school days students will be able to pay more attention. They will be able to do this because students will not have as much time to daydream and wander off in a shorter school hour. Their attention spans won’t be as bad because the school day is shorter and the classes will be shorter. The students will not have to pay attention for as long but since they wont wander off and not pay attention the teachers will be able to go at a faster pace since everyone is paying attention. You need to have tests or else students wont value their education or won’t strive to do well and will not do anything in class which will result in a lack of being educated. Also if you do not give students homework they will not be motivated. They will not be able to set goals for themselves to let them do well. They also will have no reason to pay attention in their classes so they will just show up.
